Ease the pain: make the most of a long airplane journey

Travelling alone and you are dreading to take that long haul flight? You don’t want to get stuck in your seat that seems like a torture device on a long and dull airplane journey. And it is even worse when you try harder but you just can’t seem to fall asleep. Don’t worry I have got you covered with some tried-and-tested tricks!

I say, this is the best time you have to do things you have been longing to do. Its okay, you can thank me later!

Think comfort first. You have to choose your seat wisely. If window seat makes you feel at east, ask for one. Wear comfortable loose-fitted clothes or bring a pajama to change into before you settle for a nap. Don’t forget to carry your eye mask. You have to spend hours on a flight, what’s better than a fully charged electronic game. Your PSP or Nintendo becomes your best friend during a long journey as they provide hours of fun. Even a charged laptop helps; you can go online if your airline offers Wi-Fi which most of the airlines do these days. Surf on the internet, watch a movie or complete your office work. Books are also a good company for a long journey.  Are you a busy management professional who never goes beyond that hardbound management literature? This is the best time you have got, read your favorite author without getting disturbed at all.  You will also appreciate the journey more if you are a mother longing for some reading time.

A music lover? Trust me; nothing is better than blocking out the word with your headphones. From foot-thumping numbers to some soul stirring music, carry your favorite music in your iPod or any portable music player. Working out in an airplane is also a good idea. I have done that very often. Of course you can’t follow your cardio routine in an airplane but you must get out of your seat. Walking around surely helps. You can also do some leg and arm movements, this helps keep body ache at bay.

A long journey also results in some great friendships. I have met some of the best people in the air and we are good friends till date. Talk to your fellow passengers. Start by talking to then one sitting right next to you. Maybe you are heading to the same place, maybe your fellow passenger can help you with hidden secrets of the destination you are visiting. If socializing isn’t your thing and you are passionate about writing then write a story. It is a good idea to record all your plane journeys. It is way too much fun when you read them later. Or maybe someday you could carry all of them to read on another long airplane journey.
